70,000 Inmates Reached

Posted by Mike Foster Ten thousand inmates are released back into society every week and almost nothing is being done to help them succeed. So, as People of the Second Chance, we have this crazy idea to tangibly inspire present inmates across the nation with a hope for their future.  Joining hands with us to package up the good news of second chances and true freedom is Willow Creek Church in Illinois.

This past weekend, Willow Creek’s volunteers filled 70,000 brown paper bags with our 52-week Second Chance Journal, my new book “Wonderlife,” a Christmas card, and Krispy Kreme mini-doughnuts to be sent as gifts to inmates this holiday season. An article written by the Chicago Tribune shares the inscription written inside each card. “We are thinking about you and praying for you during this holiday season.  Please enjoy this gift as we remember together how God lavished His love on each of us through the birth of His Son at Christmas.

While we’re not all members of Willow Creek Church, we can all still lavish love on an inmate. We are currently raising $30,000 through our Merry and Bright campaign to supply care packages to 3,000 more care packages this Christmas. Every $10 gift you give creates one bag.  Here’s how it works.

Go Christmas shopping! Pick a perk- a POTSC beanie, hoodie, journal, coffee mug, t-shirt, even a pass to Rescue Lab. Purchase it. And get a gift by giving a gift to an inmate.

These care packages can transform a Christmas Eve spent alone in a cell into a celebration of hope that God is with us and the future is bright.
