Giving Real Christmas A Second Chance
By Mike Foster Christmas is crazy.
So, as People of the Second Chance, we wanted to offer another opportunity for all of us chaotic people to find real Christmas. In the wise words of author Ann Voskamp, “So now we pause. Still. Ponder. Hush. Wait… Wait for the coming of the God in the manger who makes Himself bread for us near starved. For the Savior in swaddlings who makes Himself the robe of righteousness for us worn out. For Jesus, who makes precisely what none of us can but all of us want: Christmas.”
We’ve really made it a habit to try and create Christmas. The shopping, parties, perfect trees, and awesomely tacky sweaters. While these things are festive and fun, sometimes we get to today - Christmas Eve - and find ourselves grieving a little because we’re exhausted. Exhausting wasn’t what Christmas was supposed to be.
So, let’s all “pause. Still. Ponder. Hush. Wait…” Give this holiday a second chance by giving Jesus back his original responsibility of creating Christmas.
Let the story of His coming to set people free bring you hope. May the knowledge that God keeps all his promises lead to peace. Remember that Jesus was and is still light of the world and that can erase the darkness.
To every comeback kid and second chancer out there, Merry Christmas. Christ has come so that we can, and will always, be able to begin again.
