FREEWAY SMALL GROUPS STRATEGY
Posted by Mike Foster:
So the very first question we asked ourselves before starting to build "Freeway: A Not-So-Perfect Guide To Freedom" was this:
What is the best way for people to grow, change and have breakthrough?
Our answer was simple: With others and in community.
Our biggest problems, struggles and burdens don't get fixed on our own. We need each other for support, encouragement and love. With focused conversations filled with compassion and grace, our lives can change.
That's why I didn't write another book, I wrote a workbook. A workbook that you do both on your own and with others. You see, Freeway isn't something you read, it is something you do. It's about people coming together to talk about key issues of struggle, loss and God's grace.
The Freeway Structure Goes Like This: 1. During the week and on your own, do the pre-work exercises, reading and soul exploration. 2. Then you get together once a week with your group and talk about what you're learning.
It's that simple. Nothing fancy. Nothing complicated. Just people coming together to grow, and listen, and discover God's grace in every situation. The process is very strategic, but very simple too.
We have put together an easy framework, some simple group questions and I filmed some short DVD talks to help kick off each group topic. You can meet at a Starbucks, a home, the beach or at church. We recommend the group meets for 60-90 minutes. It is also critical each person do the pre-work because that helps lay the foundations for your discussions.
